Being a Home Inspector requires much experience and knowledge of many areas of the construction industry.  While a designation of ‘registered home inspector’ is very important, a full résumé of relevant training and experience is just as important. 

Work experience

  • I am currently the Deputy Chief Building Official for the Township of Lake of Bays and have over 14 years experience as a municipal building, plumbing and septic inspector, specializing in residential construction.
  • I also have 10 years experience in residential construction, building custom homes and additions and performing renovations.

Education and Training

  • Certified through Mohawk College’s trade program as a General Carpenter – named to Dean’s Honour List each year of three year program
  • Completed extensive technical training and exams through the Ontario Building Officials Association – more than 20 courses and exams dealing with all aspects of the building process
  • Certified and trained as a Septic Inspector through the Ministry of Housing and through InterNACHI
  • Certified and trained to inspect wood-burning appliances (WETT inspections) through WETT Inc.
  • Completed the Municipal Health and Safety Association’s Clandestine Labs course on identifying and dealing with grow-ops and drug labs
  • Completed many inspection courses through InterNACHI and continue to take courses through their Continuing Education Program

  • CRBO (National designation as a Canadian Registered Building Official)
  • Certified Home Inspector through InterNACHI (International Association of Certified Home Inspectors)

Additional Knowledge & Experience

  • In addition to studying about and inspecting residential plumbing and electrical, I have significant experience actually plumbing and wiring homes.
